METAL DESCRIPTIONS AND INFORMATION

Steel- Steel is USA's most used and recycled metal. Around 60% of all steel is recycled. Popular Steel items include automobiles, food cans, and appliances. All these items new will contain a minimum of 25% recycled steel. An almost full proof way to determine if an item is Steel or not is by using a magnet. A magnet will stick to steel. When products are made from steel these items usually contain a small percentage of other alloy's to fit the texture, hardness, or strength needed for each item. Steel has little if any money value to recycle but a tremendous value to our earth. Unfortunately due to the consistent abuse of our steel drop off service we can no longer accept this item. Aluminum- Aluminum is North America second most recycled metal. As with steel and most other metals, aluminum too can contain other alloy's to fit the demand of texture, hardness, and/or strength for the item being made. Because of this aluminum must be bought at different price levels. Also, as with other metals, prices will be determined on how much of other foreign objects are found on the aluminum such as steel, plastic, rubber, ect. Popular aluminum items, but not always include are: aluminum cans, window and door frames, rain gutters, cooking ware (pots and pans), ladders, litho (printing sheet), venetian blinds, foil, lawn chairs, screen doors, engine and transmission parts, siding, and awning. There is of course other items too. Click images below ( We'll have more soon!)

Copper- Copper is the #1 metal used in the plumbing and electrical trades. Copper is a conductor of electricity and a current can travel very far using copper. This is why most Insulated and coated copper wire is used for the traveling of electricity. Copper is also a great in plumbing because of the resistance it has to rust, corrosion, and depletion caused by the harsh chemicals that are found in our treated water. Copper is one of purest metal in it's own form because copper tubing and wire doesn't need other alloys to make it suitable for it's use. Brass is a metal that contains mostly copper but may include a large percentage of other alloy's such as zinc, tin, lead and a small percentage or a trace of other alloy's needed. The Percentage needed is determined by its specific use. Popular uses for copper usually include tubing (used transporting water though a house), wire, brass, electric motors, and radiators. Stainless steel- The name can somewhat self explanatory because its just that "stain less steel". Most common 304 stainless is non-magnetic. Common 304 stainless contains 18% chromium and 9% nickel the rest is pretty much a low carbon steel, maybe a very small percentage of other alloy's. There are many less common types of stainless that have a much higher percentage of nickel of course increasing it's value but you'll probably never see any of these types. Stainless steel is very hygienic because there are no pores to harbor dirt or bacteria. This is why it is used so commonly where food is prepared such as restaurants. Common items stainless steel is used for are: Cooking and eating utensils, sinks, counters, and other industrial food equipment.

Lead- Lead is becoming a less used material because of the harm to human heath in most aspects. But it is still used. one common use is in solder. Most solder is a combination of tin and lead. The two most used types are 60/40 and 63/37. And used in joining copper pipe and fittings, computer components to circuit boards, copper radiators, and a few other uses. The more common use of lead is in car batteries, wheel weights, and fishing sinkers. You still may find some old lead plumbing pipe around.

Zinc- Most commonly used in die casting. This is a metal most commonly mistaken as aluminum. But if you have just the slightest experience in handling aluminum and die cast you'll notice that die cast is heavier than aluminum. Uses include toy cars, carburetors, and many items. Zinc is not often used in a pure form.

Other metals- We also buy these not so common metals: Magnesium, Pewter, carbide and nickel. If your unsure if a metal has any value use a magnet, if it don't stick then there is a probable chance that it does have value, just give us a call and we will help you figure out what you got and it's value. But there are a couple of other metals that will stick to a magnet, carbide and nickel but these items are rare and definitely have a distinctive look to that of steel/iron.

Precious Metals- We also buy these precious metals : Gold, Silver, Platinum, and most other precious metals. Gold is mainly found in jewelry and computers. Computers, you'll notice where a connection may meet, a pin or such to be plated in gold. So these pieces can be redeemed for cash but don't go taking part your computer to find this gold because the amount of gold in one computer is not very much ! Silver, most popular again for jewelry but may be found in rare and expensive food and beverage serving ware. Silver is also found on electrical components where a "contact" is needed, and often used in silver plating.
